ICloud+ is a new enhanced version of iCloud – the features are tied to an iCloud subscription, so it may be that even users of older operating systems can benefit from some of the updates. Plus making new shortcuts should be easy, thanks to the editor that allows you to drag and drop commands rather having to learn any kind of coding. You’ll be able to choose from a library of pre-made Shortcuts to do actions like have your Mac sort your downloads folders into different file types, launch the apps you need for work, change the volume settings, and enable Do Not Disturb when going into a meeting. This should make it much easier to create routines that can automatically complete repetitive tasks you do every day. While macOS has always had the Automator utility available to building automations, macOS Monterey is stepping things up by bringing the Shortcuts feature from iOS to the Mac. So don’t get too excited if you don’t have one. Sadly, and perhaps predictably, this handy recognition of text in images will only work on M1 Macs. Apple says that it’s great for landmarks, works of art, dog breeds, and more, so we’re very keen to explore the possibilities this presents when macOS Monterey arrives. In macOS Monterey Visual Look Up will do the same things for images.Ĭlick on a part of a photo or online image and your Mac will find out more about it. On earlier versions of macOS you can three-finger tap or right-click/control-click on words to show the Look Up window, which contains definitions and Wikipedia entries about the text. If, for example, you took a picture of a restaurant you liked the look of, and it has the address or phone number in the shot, Monterey will recognise the phone number as such and allow you to click on it to place a call or enter it in your Contacts. These allow the software to analyse text, numbers and objects in images so you can interact with them. One of the more eye-catching and useful new features for macOS Monterey is Live Text and Visual Look Up. Upset that Starfire is getting married to him and suspecting that Blackfire may be up to no good, Robin orders the Titans to check out things more closely while he goes off to try and persuade Starfire to flee the wedding, Starfire refuses for the welfare of her people. She arranged the wedding as part of a truce between Tamaran and Drenthax IV, with the groom being the ruler of the Drenthax, Glgrdsklechhh, a disgusting blob-like creature if she marries him, she will become the Sklerch's consort. After receiving a taste of Tamaranean customs, they meet the Grand Ruler of Tamaran - their old enemy Blackfire, who has escaped from prison and taken over the throne. Through some evasive maneuvering the Titans outwit them and manage to destroy them.Īrriving at the royal palace, the Titans are introduced to Galfore, Starfire's former guardian, who explains that their attackers belonged to the Drenthax, who have recently conquered the planet, and welcomes Starfire back as the princess she is (she had neglected to mention this piece of trivia to the others). On the way there, Robin learns that Starfire had never even met her groom before, and tries to talk her out of the wedding, but at that moment the Titan ship gets attacked by a squad of unknown space fighters. When asked why, she says she is going to get married, and invites her friends along to attend her wedding, and to see her home planet. She explains she is returning to her home planet, Tamaran, and is never returning, much to the shock of her friends (especially Robin). The Titans notice Starfire packing her things, and asks her where she is going. Will Starfire leave the Titans for good? Will a certain Titan reveal his true romantic feelings before it's too late? Or is there more to this wedding than meets the eye? Starfire is called back to her home world of Tamaran to be the reluctant bride of a arranged marriage, but to her surprise Starfire finds out that Blackfire has returned and has now become the new tyrannical, power-mad Grand Ruler of Tamaran. These are complex decisions that need to be made on a case-by-case basis and need to be made quickly, as they are generally caught in production and have a wide impact radius. But what if it has dependencies? What if it is more mission-critical to the business than all of the applications it is impacting? Straightforward logic says you should turn the misbehaving application off. Let's say there is a misbehaving client that is impacting the health of a Kafka cluster and, by association, the health of other applications connected to the cluster. However, on detection of something irregular, the question becomes "what's next?" Corresponding thresholds and alerts are created on these metrics, which are triggered when they are breached. Reactive automation takes the safeguarding by habit process discussed above and attempts to represent them in metrics that can be collected from your Kafka cluster. The obvious technology solution to any human-based process is to automate. These generally suffer from all the issues detailed above and as such carry a bad reputation. Just before a new application is released to production you develop, test, and a week before you go live, you are presented with several boxes to tick. These are typically applied right at the end of a development cycle. "Do we have to?" and "What can we get away with?" are common phrases associated with safeguarding by habit actions.Ī perfect example of this is the "production readiness checklist". Perception - Mostly due to the two factors above, these checks are seen as a necessary evil. Timeliness - When in the development cycle is safeguarding being applied? Safeguarding by habit is often applied right at the end of the cycle when changes are difficult and costly to make. Relevance - How well does the safeguarding rule fit the use case? Safeguarding by habit practice tends to be "one size fits all" and is not tailored or relevant for a particular technology/domain. Want to see how diverse that is? Change your control app to the “PEDAL VIEW” and watch the signal routing configurations change as you step through the various factory presets. Now toggle between the two to your heart’s content. Then program the hotswitch to match any of the other Spacetime factory presets for a chorus. Calling up that preset in the future starts with the Fibonacci delay, but also allows you to instantly toggle between the two effects with the aux switch.ĭon’t like that? Let’s try some others … pick any one of the Spacetime factory presets for a verse. Then, program the hotswitch for a Leslie with reverb on fast rotor (but no delay) for a chorus. Calling up that preset in the future starts the slapback, but also allows you to instantly toggle between the two effects with the aux switch.įor a verse, set up a preset with a chorus going dual delays set with the Fibonacci sequence for stereo ping pong. Then, program the hotswitch for reverb, but no delay, for a chorus. In this example, I’ll use the Spacetime algo.įor a verse, set up a preset with a simple slapback delay. The key to avoiding any lag is to stay within one preset. Let’s start simple and say you add one $30 aux switch and link it to the hotswitch function of any Space or H9 algo. Options explode when you do this … including solving the volume pedal issue you have. I too place a premium on simplicity, but there is so much jammed into the H9 I can’t complain if I have to add an aux switch or an expression pedal. You cannot set one H9 footswitch to scroll up and the other to scroll down.Īlso, you need at least one aux switch and/or an expression pedal to accomplish what I describe. This allows you to (for example) lean into the exp ped for a clean boosted solo and also blend in a delay or a chorus or both just for that solo. Similarly, you can tell a MIDI exp ped to vary the exp ped control change parameter (that you already set up with the H9 control app) and the output level control change parameter at the same time. Just tell one MIDI footswitch to control both the Hotswitch control change parameter and the output level control change parameter as the same time. Thus, using MIDI you CAN treat it as a secret 11th parameter. However, the output fader IS controllable via MIDI because there is a MIDI control change parameter for it in the H9. Each H9 algo has 10 controllable parameters and the output level is NOT one. The H9 output level fader is not controllable in real time with either the Hotswitch or an exp ped. That MIDI footswitch will then act like a Hotswitch for algos that do not have a Hotswitch.Ģ. Then, using MIDI set up a switch that toggles between 0 and 127 and direct that switch to control the exp ped control change parameter within the H9. BUT if you run MIDI you can get the same result using the ribbon controller (exp ped) as follows: Use the H9 control app to set up a preset with exp ped capability as desired. 30 of the H9 algos (the ones also found in the 3 Factor pedals) do not have Hotswitch capability. Plus, in 22 of the 52 algos, one can switch between the effect combinations (in real time with no glitch or lag) with a footswitch (called the Hotswitch).ġ. Plus, one can morph between any of these effect combinations in real time with an expression pedal. … harmonic trem, or optical trem, or bias trem, or squarewave/chop, all with or without overdrive? Harmadillo. … stereo leslie, stereo chorus, or stereo flange? Tricerachorus. … delay, fuzz, and/or harmonizer? Pitchfuzz. …pitchshift/chorus and/or digital delay Micropitch. …analog chorus and/or analog style delay? Vintage delay. This one is particularly powerful because the algo can change the effect routing (series vs parallel) too.ĭo you want compression, volume pedal, and/or two bands of parametric eq (plus highpass and lowpass)? That algo is Eqcompressor.ĭo you want distortion/fuzz, eq, and/or autowah, or manual wah? That’s an algo named Sculpt. That’s three effects at once.Īnother algo called Spacetime provides any one or combination of chorus, dual digital delay, and/or reverb. just ridiculously flexible.įor example, an algo named Modechoverb provides any one or combination of modulation (your choice of flange or chorus), echo (an analog style delay), and/or reverb that’s why it’s called mod(ulation)-echo-(re)verb. There are limitations it is not infinitely flexible. Believe me, the guys who put these algos together chose the effects in each one wisely. Each algo performs one, two, three, or four different effects at a time, depending on the specifics of the algo. The H9 runs one of 52 algorithms at a time. The program cannot show damaged data in any way.Īdobe Industry-wide Standard File Format for Digital Video Files The site also claims support for file systems that are not supported by its scanners - APFS, HFS, EXT. Often the program can not restore the original disk structure with the names of folders and files that were there before data loss. If a bad disk is disconnected then reconnected, the program can't automatically resume scanning. To restore a file you have to buy the program. If the program cannot show a preview of the file, it prompts you to try to open it on your system. If there is no preview, you have to restore it.In practice, the program often struggles to find even common file formats. The 1000 supported file signatures metric is nothing more than a marketing ploy. All files found by the signature will be named with a consecutive number only. The software is not able to name the files found by deep scanning. The program will often show duplicate results, with the second copy not working. You will always have to start the scanning process over again. There is no way to save a disk scan session. At first, the percentages quickly reach 50, and then a long process of scanning sectors of the disk begins, without any calculation of the end time of the operation.
